Yanny Petters - ‘The Plants we played with’ (acrylic on dibond, 134x90cm), part of the Olivier Cornet Gallery’s ‘Hopscotch’ group show at Vue, an exhibition based on childhood and childhood memories.
A piece combining drawing and painting… because memories can be sketchy, we paint them in our mind’s eye... painted parts highlighting the aspects of the plants that were traditionally used in childhood games. A composition helping to join the narrative for those memories: The Nettle, dare to touch, opposite the Dock, its antidote.
A Dandelion Clock untouched as in memories and time standing still… Plantain soldiers, we hit the heads off each other’s soldiers. Is this the last man standing?... The Stickies, or Cleavers woven themselves amongst the plants, they do stick to everything with their little hairs. We used to throw them at each other…. What plants did you play with as a child, which plant brings back those childhood memories?
